Essential Questions

How does art making help us learn, explore and going deeper into understanding of ourselves and our community?


Course Objectives

In this visual arts class you will be exploring different mediums and methods of making art that might include any of the following digital photography, graphic design, printmaking, drawing, painting and more.

 

  • Develop photography skills through techniques of composition and lighting

  • Develop understanding of the principles and elements of art

  • Develop observational drawing skills using different mediums

  • Learn new way of art making that combine digital and analog methods

  • Learn methods of managing your digital work

  • Develop a body of work demonstrating increased skill and creative thinking

  • Participate in class critiques and group work

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills through written response

     

 

Responsibilities

  • Come to class ready to work with a sketchbook and a pencil.

  • Respect each other, respect yourself and respect the classroom.

  • Use your class time effectively, you are graded on it.

 

Grading Policy: grading on total points

Content & Projects

Grading criteria includes creativity, effort, craftsmanship and following instructions.  Grades for each assignment will be based on their own rubric. This also including writing assignments.

 

Process & Participation

Criteria includes attendance (total absences, not just unexcused absences), use of class time, maintaining notes and participating in class discussion, general attitude and a demonstration of being a peer leader.  This is a cooperative classroom, you should help each other.

 

Late Work Policy

Late work will be accepted in most cases, except otherwise specifically noted. Students with excused absences will have a reasonable amount of time with no penalty to turn in late work. Students with unexcused absences can submit late work for reduced credit.

 

Room for Student Voice

I encourage students to voice their thoughts and opinions in my classroom and to be part of the decision making process of designing your own exploratory experience. All our classwork will have room for your individual creative expression. If you have an idea and you’re not sure it meets the project goals talk to me and we can reach a plan together.
