This is a photo taken by a student at my previous school. It is an excellent example of how backlighting can make a strong silhoutte.

Opener: In your sketchbook complete the opener described on the board. Try using crosshatch and stipple dots to add value and give your drawings form.

Lesson Activities:

Click here to view the Project Instructions.

Click here to view the Project Grading Rubric.

Show your photos to Mrs. Bowen so she can grade them and give you one-on-one feedback.

Make a folder on your Google Drive for 10th Grade, then make a folder for this class. Save all your work to this folder. Alternatively, you can save everything the same way to a Flash Drive.

Work on editing your photos by following the Project instructions. Remember we are a collaborative learning enviornment so if you're having trouble in Photoshop ask a classmate before asking the teacher.

When you have finished editing you will start on your writing. Compose your writing into paragraph format like it was a special interest piece in a newspaper or a magazine. Partner up and read each other's writing, give feedback for grammar, tone and spelling errors.

Closer: Review of what we learned today and what we will do tomorrow.

Learning Objectives: Students will be able to critical evaluate their own photographs and apply new Photoshop editing skills.

Essential Question: Who is in my community that matters to me?
